President Obama’s White House Honey Porter

Tonight we are brewing President Obama’s White House Honey Porter. A bit after election season, we know, but what better way to celebrate and honor our President than with beer? Or, beer works if you’re lamenting and feeling sad, depending on whom you voted for.

Here is more info from The White House.

Alcohol: 5%, Bitterness: 29 IBU.
Extra Light LME – 6 lbs
Grains: Caramel 20 – 1 lb, Dark Munich 12 oz, Black Malt 6 oz., Chocolate malt 3 oz.
Hops: Pilgrim for bittering and flavor, Hallertau for aroma
1 lb honey
Wyeast 1084

The honey in our beer comes from the Warm Colors Apiary in S. Deerfield, MA. Erin rode her bike past the apiary and picked up a jar of honey and brought it back home in her cycling jersey’s back pocket. Awwww….

This beer is best enjoyed with Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely.” When I saw Barack and Michelle dancing to this at his inauguration in 2008, I thought this was just about the cutest most romantic thing ever.
